I wasn’t even aware of this student evaluation thing before reading this — as far as I know, this isn’t a thing here in France. It’s such an interesting concept where you elevate a student’s opinion to a higher standard but as you pointed out it must be something a lot of teachers find dreadful — especially the ones who just started teaching.

Who would have thought teachers could still be graded?!

Well, I guess you did. And so did… most people, probably. Anyway.

And I guess you find entitled asshole-ish students everywhere, huh. It’s crazy to me that you can still have this kind of students even though they’re given the opportunity to have a creative writing class (I don’t have that in my university. I’m jelly.)

I don’t know where I’m going with this, it just sounds like, as I was reading your blog, I was projecting myself in your class. And, to be honest, I was! It all sounds really cool.

Thank you for this piece, I really enjoyed it. I’m still thinking about this student evaluation thing — I think it should be implemented everywhere, but it should be taken with a grain of salt. It shouldn’t be the deciding factor of your worth as a teacher.

But what do I know? I’m really just one of the many students who would give you a perfect grade.
